Can I Buy in Tooting?

Tooting is an area renowned for its massive multiculturalism, renowned restaurants and buzzing bars. As one of the areas with the most growth in the last two decades, it’s no wonder there is so much hype around living in Tooting. The age old question however, still remains: can I buy in Tooting?

There is certainly good news for those looking to buy in SW17, even though often home values have priced many out. Currently, Tooting is matching the London-wide trends of massively increasing supply. This is fuelled by uncertainty over impending tax legislation for investment properties. Matched with dropping interest rates, this seems like a strong buyers’ market.

As a buyer it’s important to get yourself familiar with Tooting if you aren’t already. The postcodes SW17 7… and SW17 8… fall either side of the bustling Tooting High Street. This is the most lively side of the area and often the most popular. This is precisely why, on average, these two postcodes are amongst the highest priced in Tooting.

Tooting is perfectly placed for amenities, being serviced by the Fire Brigade stationed at Trinity Road and St. George’s Hospital (renowned nationally) on Blackshaw Road. Alongside that there are gyms, the leisure centre, the Tooting Bec Lido (the largest in the UK), commons and green spaces amongst other brilliant activity spots. For schools and education, you are spoilt for choice here, notably with Graveney School – a high achieving mixed Secondary and Sixth Form (www.graveney.org/).

Finding a place to live in an area as desirable as Tooting can seem like an impossible task but there’s been an increasing number of properties lingering on the market – that means price reductions and looser negotiations. For buyers, this is the time to make your move. Sign up to our weekly updates to see our properties of the week!
